WE THOUGHT THIS DAY WOULD NEVER COME

John Elder Robison's official release date is September 25 but I saw it at Borders yesterday available for sale. YIPPEE! It's an excellent book and is already selling well! I have an autographed ARC that John gave me when we met up in New York in June.

I think I know how john feels. You wait for over a year and it seems like it will never come and then PRESTO!
Everything happens at once.

So what's it like almost two months after LOTTERY's release?

Well you get used to seeing your book in bookstores and something happens that you didn't expect. emails from readers telling you how much they enjoyed your book. I answer each one and will until it gets too much. I value each and every reader.
And then the surprises. Finding out LOTTERY is on the August bestseller list for Elliott Bay Book Store. Seeing LOTTERY on the Bestseller list again for
HAWAII.
So I've taken you on the road to do signings, talks and readings. You've read some reviews and features.I've talked about the book club discussions.
And now?
It's all up to the book sellers and readers.
And out of my hands.
So what am I doing?
Writing.
That's what.
And staying home.

Hanging out on the aft deck of ORION.
Petting my muse.
And working on novel number two.

Hi!
Good to see you are writing on your next book! ;D Thanks for the autographed copy, we'll all read it in turns. Just had to say hhi, and let you know that it seems like I'll write my PhD over the next few years! Wohooooo! Love to the family from all of us here in Voss!

Pat, your book is pretty popular here in Massachusetts, too. It has prime real estate on all of the bookstore front tables and readers love it.

Would you say the highlight of this entire experience has been the notes people send? I would imagine so.

Hi Pat, Here's one of those notes: I finished Lottery last night. Your book made me laugh out loud, turn pages REALLY fast to see how things were going to turn out, and cry. I cared about Perry and his friends (& Gram, the live person and Gram the voice in his head) so much! And I really loved the ending. I think Perry did exactly what Gram told him not to do: He was smart. I especially liked what happened with David. :)

Looking forward to your N2.

I love to know what number 2 is about. Any chance you'll share? Or is it too soon?

I have to say... "petting my muse" sounds absolutely filthy at first glance:) LOL. Maybe your next novel should be erotica.

I really enjoyed the book signing on Saturday. It was so nice to see how excited people are about Lottery. Keep writing, I can't wait for the next one!

I confer with Pat. Look Me In The Eye is a deeply insightful and evocative read.
Go John, go.

Same goes for LOTTERY!

Aloha Silje! That first post is from one of my cousins from Norway.
Double Woof to you John!
Writers Group- Highlights? Well it's actually like spontaneous warm hugs at odd moments that just warm your heart- MUCH better than highlights...
Oh carleen thanks a bunch!
rebecca I am very close mouthed about my projects until they are in draft form - I don't like to lose energy talking about the premise.
toddie...toddie...toddie...why am I not surprised you said that! hope your work is going well- it's such fun to meet bloggers and know who they are!

John and Perry - two of my favorite guys! But while I only get to see Perry on the page (please include him in another novel!) I get to attend TWO of John's events! NYC and CT. I'm so excited for him. As I was for you when Lottery debuted. The writing community can be a glorious place can't it? Gives a newbie hope, doesn't it, Manic?

Aloha Patricia! ;D
Hehe, well, I promised to comment so I had to keep my promise. Even though I waited WAY too long before I did so..... ;D

I guess in the end, that's what it's all about, isn't it? Just sitting down and putting words on the page.

Glad you're getting to do that again. :-)

Already read Lottery, just picked up Look Me in the Eye, along with a couple of other books. So when I get a break in first-draft action, I've got a pile on the nightstand. Cool!

Silje email me from my profile page! I don't have your email.
I am immersed in book two - it has taken me by surprise. The kind of premise that wakes you up in the middle of the night and you say "Ah HA!"
I had a character out of place in another manuscript and now she finds a home. Like Lottery it's starting to write itself. I have learned to slow down and think carefully - laying down the structure - the skeleton- before I fill in the details.
Sorry for being cryptic!

Pat, I had a really awesome day yesterday when I thought, "I wrote today, and it feels great and I even feel like a real writer today!"

Best feeling in the world, wouldn't ya'gree? Hee hee, just made that up... the contraction for you agree is now officially trademarked as ya'gree. Thank you Mrs. Elliot.

Enough. You can tell the caffeine is in charge of what is coming out onto the keyboard with this post.

Oh, and hey Kim!!! Isn't it a hoot when you're writing to other writer friends via another writers' friends' blog and you see we're corresponding with one another this way?

Yes, Pat, I told you... IT'S THE CAFFEINE!!!

: )

Best to you!

Thanks rachel!
It's amazing to get all these notes from people all over the place. I just got some very cool reviews in Australia and the UK!
I really do enjoy hearing from readers.

Good luck with book two!

I'm kicking my second one around as well. I keep telling myself...there's NO pressure...there's NO pressure. I almost believe it.

I see Lottery in every bookstore as I travel around for signings. It's good to be out there, for sure.
