On Saturday I flew in at 6am, got coffeed up and by 2 pm I was in a comfy chair and had a cozy chat with eager readers.
Afterward my cousin Mimi and friends had dinner with me and my full service UBER friend Cathy who picked me up and got me whereever I needed to go.
After much wine and whining...(I wanna drink more...) Cathy and I headed off to her house where I got to sleep in a REAL bed that did not move and TAKE A BATH!!!!

And then after a much needed sleep we took off for EVERETT LIBRARY and this is what we saw.
I mentally erased the unnecessary "s".
I posed for a photo with UBER friend Cathy who has known me since I was 2 years old.
And she STILL likes me...
I spoke to a room full of EVERETTITES...
I only had to send two outside to think about their behavior and chastise one for talking out of turn...
I took pictures of the honor students...
The UBER booksellers from Barnes and Noble!

Okay, I was fairly certain the photo with me in it would end up on the cutting room floor, otherwise I would've ducked away or something.
But seriously, the Everett Library reading was wonderful! And I will tell everyone that if they are anywhere in a 3-county radius of somewhere Pat is giving a reading, go go go! It's an opportunity to see a terrific dialogue between an insightful writer and an intelligent audience with great comments and questions.
I wanted to go to the UH event, but I was in the middle of class. So close too (Kuykendahl Hall). But that same day I saw the article about you and "Lottery" in the Ka Leo that day (it's also online at www.kaleo.org). Congrats on everything.
Tomorrow, tomorrow, I get to see you tomorrow! YAY!
Those of us on the East coast anxiously await Pat's appearance, hint hint hint...

That bookstore looks marvelous. I love places like this and much prefer to drive to downtown Denver for the Tattered Cover than to travel two minutes to my local B&N.

Patricia, thanks for stopping in at my blog. I have a question for you: you write all your first drafts "blazingly fast" and then rework?
First drafts for me are a way to get down all my ideas for the story so I don't forget them. First drafts are easy -- especially shitty ones!
Keep in mind we ALL have massively different ways of writing. Some people outline -- others write detailed synopsis and still others rework each chapter before going on to the next.
I do shitty first drafts. (To quote Ann Lamott in Bird by Bird)
My first drafts are full of typos, grammatical disasters and some (rare) brilliance that I usually end up cutting. I don't let anyone read it until my third or fourth pass.
On my successive drafts I start at the beginning and go straight through to the end- if I get stuck on a part or am not satisfied I skip it and continue on. I am optimistic I will figure how to solve the problem on other passes. My revisions sometime result in tearing apart and rearranging -- again I think so many writers agonize over perfection in certain chapters that it paralyzes them-they can't move forward. The other thing I do is to move on to create other projects while my previous one is sitting. Wait time for me is essential. It gives me perspective.
Right now it is difficult because I have so many demands on my time. I have talked to other authors about this and they have told me "get used to it." I now have to learn to write during times of excessive "busyness."
It's very much like new writers saying they will wait to write when the children are grown or in school or they retire. Some times that day never arrives.
So I contrive...

Re: First drafts -- I'm at that stage right now. Get it down, worry about it later. So far there are some good gems in with the clunkers, so I go forward, knowing it's not total crap.
I'd take you up on either events (Friday and Saturday), but I'm working both times. ack. I'm up on campus Wednesdays and Thursdays, though.
