TROLLS...THE OTHER WHITE MEAT

There’s a somebody I’m longin’ to see
I hope that he, turns out to be...
A troll to watch over me...

75 degrees and 8:15 pm inside and warmer outside. Much warmer.
I like my trolls from Norway very much. I put them places.
Unusual places.
Like on top of the refrigerator.
In the kitty bed.
Sitting on the wheel in the cockpit.
It's time to get silly. Getting silly keeps you young. To get really silly I read beyond excellent children's books.
They make me happy.
When I find a great one I get REALLY HAPPY.

So a while back I got an ARC of ALEX AND THE IRONIC GENTLEMAN
I didn't want to make anybody crazy (except my troll) so I kept quiet.
Until now.
This book is way cool. I had such a great time reading it. Alex is such a plucky heroine and her adventures are so clever I knew I was going to make myself crazy cuz I was already wanting to read the next book.
There's a quality in children's literature I find irresistable -- not only a compelling story but snappy witty (is that a word) writing.
This book has it in spades. It's missing now. My friend took it-- she saw it on my table and took it to read.
Then someone took it from her.
And so on.
And so on.
And so on.
Harry and Narnia move over.
There's a new kid in town.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only adult who cheerfully reads good kids' books.

Let me guess: you met Adrienne at Absolute Write.

I'm glad to know there are more good kid's books coming. I miss Harry! I re-read Narnia every year, have since I was seven! Yeah, I ADORE good kid's books!

Hey, you posted this post at 8:08pm. Hee. I know, I'm so lame.

My God that's an ugly troll! I too got that ARC - and now I wish I'd read it before I sent it along to my nephew as a little giftie. And I confess I am re-reading Harry Potter 7. I tore through it the first time. Now I am savoring my last visit with the Hogwarts crew. Orion, it's lovely to have your general thoughts back on your blog. Especially the ocean photos! I hope Perry is well and happy too.

Is AW worth it? I need a good online community of good writers...

Aw Pat! You are so sweet, thank you so much for the amazing review! I am seriously flattered.

zany mom - can't speak for others, but AW is awesome, people serious about writing but not too serious about themselves.

yeah I agree. AW is quite useful. As in other online communities it tends to suck out your time like it never existed but there is MUCH good information there. I try to drop by at least once a week.

We are really looking forward to this one!!!

I say we because I enjoy them as much as my kids.

Ooh, I cannot wait to read it. And as a fan of classic kids lit like Susan Cooper, Madeleine L'Engle, Narnia, and of course, HP, if I like it, all my nieces and nephews will get it for Christmas.

Thanks for the recommend. Currently reading A Wrinkle in Time (I know: late to the party).
