Finding the Rhythm
8 am and 79 degrees. Cloudy. Muggy. Hot.
Veritas may lose the nick name Baby Horse. He is coming along nicely. A pleasure to ride.
It occurred to me how much Horses are like writing.
Paul Theroux jokes that I get writing lessons for riding lessons (you have to say this out loud to get it). But it is true.
Sunday afternoon we talked about my editing and his heels down.
We talked about how to proceed line by line and about closing his fingers.
It's all in the details.
How to keep your vision of what your book is about.
Have a picture in your head of how you want your horse to look like.
He also said I was lucky to have an agent who understands plotting and how to make a book the best it can be.
We all need suggestions, support and succor.
Like a horse.
No matter who you are.
Just like riding.
Just like what my horse needs.
You have to find his rhythm. The right way to approach a problem.
The rhythm of riding and the rhythm of writing.
How alike it all is.

I love your fresh, new photographs of horses and ocean things every day!
Hey, I was wondering, what do you know about sending query letters to agents who've previously rejected but shown interest? I was encouraged by Knight Agency to re-submit, but I'm hesitant.
Thanks!
I resubmitted other projects to agents but never the same one. Did you rewrite? Is it substantially different or are you submitting an entirely different project?
It makes a difference on how you start your query letter. Any interest is good. It tells you are going in the right direction.
Why are you hesitant?
Do you feel it is time to re-submit?
How much time has passed?
Thanks for responding and posting on my blog too!
It is amazing (an an honor) for me to witness the progression of your book. It still blows me away that
you do everything with such passion and talent you become an expert so quickly and thoroughly. OK, it may not seem "quick" to you but to your friends it is--amazing.
Keep writing, riding, diving, sailing and most
of all participating in our world!!!
Mary
