FIFTY WAYS TO DO YOUR RESEARCH

Bright and early I get to work. Revising my crappy first draft.

9pm and 78 degrees.
Research. Everybody's got to do it. I do it concurrently while I'm writing. Below is a photograph of some things I gathered for my next novel.

Although fiction is, well, fiction, it's a priority for me to make sure I know what I'm talking about.
Thank GOODNESS I don't write science fiction or fantasy or I'd be in trouble. I'd have a hard time putting in time on Mars.
So I have enlisted KIMBER AN 's help for those places I haven't been to. (Kimber An's response is MWA HA HA)
The important thing about research is to have dependable help. I put Touloose in charge of reading Edith Hamilton and Thomas Bulfinch. So Touloose. What have you found? Touloose? Touloose? TOULOOSE!!!!!

POSITION AVAILABLE:
Research position working for author. Must be willing to stay awake while reading.
While ability to purr is preferable it is not required.
Dogs need not apply.

I don't know. If you pay in MeowMix the answer is definitely no.

Now, now, Toulouse is just trying to remind you to take a break once in a while.

Hey, Toulouse, what's the most important thing to remember when training a new muse?

Touloose is very unsatisfactory as an employee and is more into iams...

Yup, science fiction research could prove to be messy... and odd!

That's why I depend on Kimber An. Besides she has all the space suits.

I have two assistant - dogs.
They snooze at my feet, (one snores Quite loudly and keeps me alert!)
And one gets bored quickly and is always asling me to play. He'll bring me a ball, or snuffle loudly, or look at me accusingly.
Hard to get any work done when they both conspire against me, but I do love their company!

*eye roll* My cats are laughing at you, pitiful hairless monkey-woman!

They insist that sitting upon the reading material is enough: They ARE cats, after all!

What I cannot get them to verify is if that is the equivalent of reading...

I got to email two very handsome State Troopers for my research. And an amazing lawyer who happens to do wonderful work protecting kids from the evil toy companies who seem hellbent on lead poisoning us. One trooper even sent me his photo in uniform. Meow! Research can be fun! John Robison, in his Aspergian logic, found some, er, inconsistencies in my MS and hooked me up with Trooper man. God bless him! Careful with that bullseye, Pat!
