OMG I sense a bidding war! LOL

I thought you weren't supposed to sell ARC's??

Who cares! I'm bidding!

ORION said...

Yeah but it's not like the ARC police are going to get you!
I think it's too funny.
There will probably be more. I asked Holly and she said she bought three of hers on eBay!
So anyone else? There's a way you can get a copy early!

I bid 5 bucks and my entire collection of Toby Maguire baseball cards.

OMG that is too funny!

I love buying stuff on ebay, but I have never bought an ARC...

Hmmmm...
I may have to get into a bidding war with Zany for this one!
lol....

MG --- psssst - MARK Maguire? Or is Spiderman playing baseball now too? LOL! I've heard the ARC emits the smell of roses, but that could just be a rumor.... Holy Mary!

No way! Isn't that illegal??? Nevertheless, it is funny. I love Wierd Al, by the way. I think we're twins seperated at birth.
;)

By the way, did I ever tell you that Alaska's first woman governor, Sarah Palin, hawked the governor's private jet on eBay?

ORION said...

ha ha ha ha!
I just bid on my own book!
It's up to $1.26!!!!
Come on you guys!

LadyBronco said...

It's up to $3.36 now...WOOHOO!

Fun. But I want to know who this seller is with Pat's and all these other ARCs. An editor? And agent? Someone's assistant? Aren't you curious?

ORION said...

They send ARCs to booksellers, reviewers, newspapers...it could be anybody. There's a bunch floating around. I think it's a hoot!

This is becoming one hot book. Dang it, now I've got one more thing to read on my list.

Miss Snark adored it, as I'm sure you know. I wonder if her copy or did the MTA operator get it after all.

Aprilynne Pike said...

Huh, well. You've been holding out on us Pat. I See that this seller categorized you book as a mystery/thriller.

You are totally misrepresenting yourself.;)

Aprilynne Pike said...

BTW, did you look at this seller's other items? They are ALL ARCs. (Since it is technically illegal, do you think that's a little risky on their part? . . . Not that I'm going to turn them in.:))

ORION said...

It's NOT illegal actually. The cover of the book says NOT FOR RESALE. I have been communicating with the seller and I guess ARCs are "given/sold" to THE STRAND bookstore in New York and that is where these came from.
Interesting huh?
So Maprilynn - if ya got 6 bucks then buy it!!!!!

Kimber Li said...

A mystery/thriller??? Why didn't you tell us, Pat?
:o)

Hi - I'm the seller of the arc. Since you all want to know how I got it, I was dumpster-diving looking for food, and found this arc. So . . .

Mindy Tarquini said...

Were you able to get the pizza stains off it, Seller? Because if not, then I'm pulling back the Toby Maguire baseball cards from my bid.

ORION said...

I have been having THE MOST FUN emailing the seller of my ARC of LOTTERY!!!!
They are WAY nice so you guys better go over there and bid!
OK.
THE CONTEST IS ON!!!
If I win the bidding I will sign it and it will be the prize in the next contest!
How does that sound?

Look out ebay, Stagmom is the high bidder! Sorry, Pat. I bumped ya!

John Robison said...

With all this bidding competition, I'll wait 2 more weeks till I have ARCs of my own to trade!

This happens every time my brother releases a book. And don't forget 1st print hardcovers. . . grab them when they go on ebay, because there will be a stream of people asking for them in years to come.

Are you watching Amazon sales rank every day, too? Do you have any idea what our ranks (both about 20,000 right now) mean for as-yet unreleased books?

I looked at some of the other August titles in the Crown catalog and many don't have ranks at all. I sure hope that's a good sign. Have you heard anything from anyone who'd know?

Are they bringing you back to NYC for the BEA show? If so, I'd love to meet down there. I'll be around the Random House area for 2 days.

best
John

Wow! That didn't take long. OK, I bid on it. I'm going to hold you to your offer to sign it if I win, though ;).

Mindy Tarquini said...

Whoa! It's already at 31 bucks, Pat! I might have to toss in my Johnny Depp Squeeze Toy.

ORION said...

I definitely will sign it!!!!
I'll even spring for the postage!

LadyBronco said...

The seller ended the auction early and cancelled all bids!

What gives???

David L. McAfee said...

Actually, the seller cancelled the listing. :(

Oh, well.

Aug 2 isn't that far away. ;)

Unknown said...

I wanted that ARC. What's up with the Seller canceling the auction. Bummer!

Mindy Tarquini said...

Maybe s/he didn't want my Johnny Depp Squeeze toy?

It's funny, I never did get over to eBay to see the listing (I'm just now reading the blog), but after reading the comments, I still feel like I was part of it. The suspense, the drama!

Zany Mom said...

I was waiting for the last minute snipe. :( So sad to see the listing gone. Says he 'lost' or 'broke' the item.

Maybe he didn't realize it was so popular!!

Kimber Li said...

That's what I was thinking, Zany. He described it as a mystery/thriller!

Adrienne said...

I would bid, but it's getting a bit pricey for little ol me! How hilarious, Pat!

ORION said...

It's a mystery!
Now I'm hunting on ebay to see what else is there!

Sam said...

I got to the party too late, lol.
But I've already pre-ordered the book, so I wasn't the least bit tempted...Ha!

Besides, this seemed to be the mystery edition of 'The Lottery' - Pat, I didn't know you wrote two versions of it!
;-)

Anonymous said...

Oh, hell. I wanted it. I was going to bid, too.

If we send you our pre-ordered copies, postage-paid both directions, will you autograph them? For original blog pals? Pretty, pretty, pretty please?

I'm counting days until mine arrives.

ORION said...

Of course!

ChumleyK said...

Aw I'm so disappointed! This is what I get for living on the wrong side of the world...I didn't hear about it until it was too late.

So...this is probably a stupid question...but are the people who have ARCs of this book already allowed to pass them on? Like maybe to me?

Bernita said...

Dumpster diving, my sweet ass.
NO ONE throws that book in the garbage!

Tyhitia Green said...

Pat,
Wow. That is crazy. I am too late to bid.

Heidi the Hick said...

Whoo what drama! I guess we'll have to get the book the old fashioned way. (Is the Johnny Depp squeeze toy still available?)

ORION said...

Hey John email me ! (look on my profile page)
Let's talk about trading ARCs!!!

Mindy Tarquini said...

(Is the Johnny Depp squeeze toy still available?)

Sure, Heidi. Watcha got?

Anonymous said...

Back away from the Johnny Depp squeeze toy, Heidi.
