GEE MOM, SHE FOLLOWED ME HOME. CAN I KEEP HER?

So I am walking with my friend the other day and discovered a monk seal who just lumbered to shore. They lay on the beach to rest or have their babies. I don't know for sure that it was female but I decided to take literary license and say that it was.
I am not sure though.
What I am sure of is that it was serendipitous.
One minute the beach was empty.
The next she was there.
Like inspiration.
And I look with wonder.

84 degrees and 2 pm.
A leisurely Saturday.
I have news.
First of all I discovered a very cool blog. RAY WONG AUTHOR OF THE PACIFIC BETWEEN has a blog called -- I the author -- and it is good fun to read. Ray is MAESTRO over at ABSOLUTE WRITE WATER COOLER and is one of many sound voices of reason (as I like to think of them).
Today I signed up for my third year at the MAUI WRITERS RETREAT AND CONFERENCE. Their 2007 brochure is ready. I have said it before and I'll say it again that it was one of the contributing factors that allowed me to obtain the agent who sold my book. It's always held just prior to labor day. Unfortunately it is also my husbands birthday. What I give up for my art. I need a T-shirt that says "I had to decide between celebrating my husband's birthday or attending the Maui Writers Conference... I guess I can mail him a card from Maui."
(I just read this to Gordon AKA Patricia Wood's husband -- he was not amused)
And...
PAUSE.
I have to blush.
(FYI having never blushed in my life I am having difficulties initiating this alien physical response)
I have been asked to be a guest blogger on THE DEBUTANTE BALL this Tuesday March 12.
How cool is that?
Mia King whose book GOOD THINGS just came out to rave reviews so kindly asked me and of course I said yes.

So what does this have to do with monk seals on the beach?
Well...
What do you think?

Pat,

So we meet again. "You can run but you can't hide." How true. Now, where are those photos you promised to send me (of underwater life) over a year ago? Kidding. But send one if you have to share and I'd love to post it. Congrats on the book. I won't ask if it's in stores, I'll just keep reading your blog. I'd better stop babbling before I end up in one of your novels. You're dangerous. Again, congrats!

I think I got way laid getting my book published!
Actually I also finally got a good scanner as most of my good shots were film and not digital.
Lottery is out August 2-
Thanks for stopping by!

seals are an ancient polynesian bearer of fertility (creative as well as procreative).

I just made that up, but its fitting.

Have fun guest bloggin' and doing the writers festival. Yay!

Monk seals don't spend birthdays with their husbands either?

I went back and read the opening pages of my second novel for the first time in weeks, for the first time since getting the 25th (and counting) rejection on the latest and final revision of my first novel. Imagine my surprise to find a beautiful seal on the edge of a wild and vast and inviting ocean.

Thanks. :)

I'm trying to talk The Quiet Bunion into going to the Maui conference with me.

Gotta think what to do with the kids, though. This motherhood thing can be a real drag.

Hi, Pat!

To answer the question, me dunno, but seals are sooo cute. Especially baby ones.
:o)

Pat, you'll be pleased (I hope) to know that Amazon has Lottery listed for pre-order...the audio CD but not the book, lol.

Thought I'd let you know. It's cool you'll be doing the guest blogger thing. More exposure is good exposure...so long as you can't get arrested for it. On the other hand, that would give you some ink, too!

Now to show you how lame I am -- I actually PRE ORDERED my own audio book.
I know I get a free copy BUT
just to get it listed on amazon was such a thrill.
This is really happening.
How cool is that?

Yep, never know when those monk seals are gonna turn up!

I think the Monk Seals represent a new era of your life.

That's the best I could come up with. I have absolutely no idea if it's true, but hey, it's another thing to think about.

I have to say that I envy you Pat. Living on the beach, taking pictures, getting published. Hm, maybe someday I'll do it all.

Keep writing,

Vicky
