This is one of the photos I'm using for inspiration for my next novel. I changed it to sepia and kind of like the affect.
I'm lucky I don't write SF. Imagine how hard it would be to get pictures of space ships engaged in battle or farms on Mars...or those twenty tentacled alien lobster monsters.
I often wonder how Tooloose does it as I think that's his genre. Well he doesn't call it SF. He prefers to think he's writing a pararomantiliterarlmystericalthriller.
I think he's doing it so he gets his very own shelf in the book store.
He SAYS he's ahead of his time and is a ground breaking artiste.
Of course it's all a moot point until he actually FINISHES it.
I tell him he's got to WRITE to do that and he just rolls his eyes.
Suffering for his art.

very cool photo! i did that on my first novel attempt - found a great photo that totally set the mood for my setting.
So is this one for the third book or for the one you have almost finished right now?

I have photos too, that I've found online for my book. Since part of it is set in an old mountain village in northern Japan, I went and found house pictures from that same village and use them as an inspiration for putting me there. It's too bad I don't have the money to travel there and see them for myself.
Still, the Internet made it possible--I don't know what I would do if I didn't have access to the wealth of information.

With each novel I tape a new photo next to my desk to set the tone for my writing...

Cool photo. I'm big into maps when I'm writing. I end up buying these old vintage things off of ebay...
This is such a great idea - and I love your photo. I don't know why I never thought of it - thank you for this, and all the others' comments - I'm someone who's into drawing, and everything creative, yet in my writing, I only have words and notes and lists up on the wall. This is just what I was missing! Need to get my old pictures and postcards out from the 'research' folder and up in front of me.
Yeah, but Tooloose wants a shelf in the bookstore so he can SIT in it, not so he can display his books.
