LUCKY WE LIVE ON A BOAT IN HAWAII (NOT)

So this is what a tropical storm looks like when you live on a 50 foot sailboat. First the wind blows so vigorously it smears the wet on the bimini (cockpit enclosure).

Then the rain pours so hard that you have to go on deck at 4 am and lay tarps. NOTE: It only leaks on MY side of the bed.

Then when there is a lull - you are lured out to take pictures of the brown-red water in the harbor and you stray too far and get caught by a squall and drenched.

So I'm writing in my cute little office in the forward cabin. The boat is tossing and heeling at the dock and my office chair rolls back and forth. I'm starting to get a bit sea sick. Girl Kitty and Tooloose are DEFINITELY experiencing 'mal de mer' in fact I've stepped in it twice...
So what's a writer to do?
Easy... I'm working on the part in my new novel where there's a storm...
It's like they say...
Write what you know.
So what's the weather like in YOUR neck of the woods?

We're hunkering down! Dark purple clouds are hanging over our little hunk of rock in the Aegean. We've got strong gale/storm winds of level 9-10 (12 is hurricane). Don't ask how many dogs and cats are in our house ...

Hey Island mate!
Could be worse ... could be snow, sleet and cold and you'd be "chippin' yer hawsers at sun up."

Belated Happy Anniversary BTW

It's rained all day... drenching rain. No wind, no thunder that i've heard. Just rain.

I don't believe the rumor that it may freeze tonight.

I'm just thrilled that it's rain and not snow!

Freezing rain in Maine. My kids' school bus fish-tailed on the way home, but they're okay. The pick-up truck that skidded before them wasn't. Looking like a "snow" day tomorrow so no writing for me, especially since we often lose power during ice storms. Extra berth on your boat?

Our weather's been about the same as yours, only colder. We had tornadic weather on Tuesday, then a cold front followed. There is snow north of us. There was snow south of us (but, of course, it melted). We just got rain. Cold, nasty rain. It was in the 30s and raining, this morning. But, we're supposed to warm up and dry up. Fingers crossed.

Just took the garbage out to the curb - full moon, not a cloud in the sky, 25 degrees, driveway like an ice rink, about 5 inches of snow on the ground - all very Christmasy.

That doesn't look too pretty!

Here in Canada we're bracing for a big snowstorm, due this afternoon with high winds, lots of snow, and dangerous windchills reaching minus 30. Wanna trade?

um...no...lol!

The sun is shining over here today and I hope it is the same for you.

I put a tarp over our jeep yesterday to keep the rain out, but unfortunately it failed miserably. There was too much rain. So either I run errands with a wet bum, or stay in today.

Hope you aren't getting seasick, that doesn't sound fun!

Cold! It's cold here in Cleveland, but my house is firmly set on it's foundation.

Hope the storm has passed and that you got a great chunk of writing out of it!

Cold and snowy per usual in good ol' Chicago.

I just read something about Jellyfish invading Hawaii beaches. Like, hordes of them. You getting any of that?

ORION said...

Jellyfish usually invade 10 days after the full moon - not too much of a problem on the leeward side but sometimes a problem in Waikiki- the sting is worse if you are susceptible- for me it's just itchy- others it's like a bee sting and if you are allergic then it's off to the hospital...

I wish I was in my own neck of the woods. I'm in Cincinnati freezing my arse off at a WD conference on publishing. San Diegans should NOT leave home for colder parts in winter without the promise of skiing. We don't have the constitutions for it... at least, not without free-flowing Starbucks. Oops, sorry, I'm whining. The one thing good is we were instructed to waste, I mean spend, more time visiting blogs and Facebook and tweeting in order to network, so at least I'm whining guilt-free.

Would you like to trade for the freezing rain?

I hope you and the cats weather the storm in good health.

And Merry Christmas!

Storms and all, you are a lucky girl. We have snow and sleet in Western Kentucky!

Were you tempted at all to go to a hotel room during this storm? I would have been there in a minute and watched the storm from the bar in the lobby.

Near Niagara Falls, NY we're getting snow, snow, and more snow. Oh, and wind chills in the negative numbers. Brrr.

Sorry for the very late comment. You certainly get some pretty severe storms to make up for all that blue sky and sunshine. Looking forward to reading your next novel. I am afraid Lottery is still in my reading queue, but I will read it soon.
