Notice how the boat in this photograph actually looks like it's moving? Even tho the other boat's sails are "filled" it's not moving i.e there's no wake...

The sail (with the breeze in it) is facing to the side of the ship, so that the ship, if actually sailing, would be sailing sideways???

Just a complete guess.

btw, kind of a convoluted sentence above. haha. Didn't know how to say it succinctly.

That's what I was gonna say--the water's moving!!!!!!!!

Wow. I know absolutely nothing about sailing. :*) I may go one day...

All I can come up with is, "I want one!"

In the first picture, the sail is the wrong way round. It should curve out at the front and in at the back. They’ve probably flipped it in photoshop, and hooked it behind the fake ‘bar’ at the top, to prevent the sail looking baggy and flimsy.

Oh you guys are good...
I think it's the same thing when you are describing something in a book and the reader can tell you have never had the experience. Like someone who rides a horse for the first time on a ten hour trail ride and they don't mention being unable to walk - LOL

Is that the Sloop John B? See how the Mainsail sets? Do I sound sailory? I wanna go home.
Mainsail. Topsail. Nordstromhalfannualsale.

Are you implying that my story is "luffing?" See, I'm not a complete nautical idiot.

I rowed crew. The heck with sails. Find me an oar!

I'd show my husband and ask him, but then I'd have to listen to him whine about wanting to move to the PNW and live aboard a boat. Not that I wouldn't mind that, but it's just not in the budget right now, thanks to the stock market. :(

I only noticed the pretty blues.
