Too exciting for me. I am in GALLEYCAT and NEW YORK MAGAZINE. How fun is that? But I must say that DAVID still wrote my favorite review. I mean how can you beat boogers?
10:30 pm and nearly 80 degrees!!! I kidd you not. The VERY day I buy a wool Norwegian Sweater. Go figure.
One more week in Norway. It is hard to know where to begin. I cannot tell you about Selje. How green the water was. The air with a chill.
I cannot describe the sheep at Vestkapp.
Bounding away in fear then stopped by hunger and the security of their mother.
I am unable to describe the houses of stone and the windswept cliffs.
And Bergen?
What of Bergen?
The topsy turvey houses askew of Bryggen.
And the surreal time. The darkness of the evening which never comes completely.
Midnight in Bergen. The dusk turns into dawn bypassing night.
Thousand year old churches. What can I say about buildings that are forever?
Nothing.
I can say nothing.

I can say something -- Wow! I love the sheep picture. I'm so glad you are having a wonderful time and that it has finally warmed up almost to Hawaii standards. It's too hot here so get ready to come home to serious humidity!
Congrats on all the kudos and keep those gorgeous pictures coming!
I blogged about this.
Kind of.
WOW great pictures, amazing country. how memorable--thanks for sharing them!!
miss you. You birthday present is waiting for you.
Mary
I hope you are going to spend some serious time with one iPhoto or one of those other photo programs making a book of your travel photos and posts from your trip... you need a coffee table book. And if you made one, you could sell it to the rest of us on Lulu and be published twice over. (And, I could pretend that I was the one that went on the trip. You don't think anyone would notice if I used white out to change the name of the author, do you?) Sign me "jealous"
If one is Sleepless in Seattle, then you are Basking in Bergen!
Of all the picures you've posted, I love the stone and grass cottages here + the four ancient huts built side-by-side on that hill a few days ago.
P.S. A week ago today, we got 6 inches of snow here. I'll send you a few pictures offline.
Pat, that review by David just has my mouth watering. I cannot wait to red Lottery! I am just drooling at the thought!!!!! Is this the book I have been waiting for all my life????
I've enjoyed these posts a lot. My family comes from Bergen and it is a real treat to view your pictures.
You can say wow, how beautiful. Great post as always, Pat. I'll definitely have to visit this place someday.
As a guy who desperatly needs a vacation I thank you for the pics. At least i can stare at the monitor and dream of getting away.
Great pics, and what a great way to celebrate a fabulous year.
Belated, but enthusiastic, happy birthday!
I read your Gawker/New York mag stuff. The build up is on in earnest - the PR is shifting into gear. The train is leaving the station! August here you come!
(PS) John Robison and I had lunch today - were your ears ringing???
Wow, Pat. Just...wow. As always, wonderful, wonderful pictures. You are having quite the time there, I see. I can't help but be envious. :) Also, just a little touched that you like my li'l review best.
Awww...shucks!
Personally, I can't wait for your book to come out, either. For one thing, I have a hadrcover on order from Amazon already, and for another, I am just...itching...to see Perry "Lucky" Crandall rocket onto the NYT Bestseller List.
C'mon...everyone here knows it's gonna happen. ;-)
Sounds like you are having a blast! Glad you could meet relatives and see the 'old country.' It looks wonderful.
It's funny how little we really hear about Northern Europe (Finland, Norway, Sweden, etc.) in the US.
