THEEEEEYYYYY'RRREEEE HEEEERRRREEEE!!!!
I took a few out of the box. Putnam sent me 24 galleys that will be mailed to various readers (you know who you are) and independent booksellers here in Hawaii.
The front and back covers.
You may not be able to read this...but try, okay?
4 pm and 80 degrees.
They just arrived. I unpacked them and then just burst into tears.
My hands are shaking.
There is no poise here.
No nonchalance.
No suave sophistication.
This does not happen everyday. At least not to me.
My book is in my hands. Granted it is an ARC (advanced reader copy) but it is a book all the same.
With my name on it.
I am humble.
I am oh so humble.
Thank you Dorian.
Thank you Peternelle.
Thank you Putnam.
Thank you Amy.

At last I am the first person to post a comment!! (OK, you gave me the tip-off and everyone else is getting ready for bed on the mainland but hey! You snooze you lose!). Congrats!!! And may I be the first to say your galleys are gorgeous! Four color, no less! They look like a regular trade paperback, which is a very good sign that the publisher is pulling all stops out for you - you should be VERY proud! I am proud of you! Congrats, Pat!
It really is beautiful, Pat.
Shake and tremble and have
yourself a good ole cry!!!
You deserve it.
Of course, as you do, I'll be pacing at my mailbox waiting for my copy to arrive! :)
Oh, so cool, Pat!
;)
Awww you make me want to cry! Enjoy this moment, sweetie. You earned it.
Ah, Pat, congratulations! Well deserved. I'm so very happy for you. The ARCs are gorgeous. Enjoy this special time.
So beautiful! And you are totally getting me all teary. I'm not joking. I'm sitting here 12:45am with The Colbert Report in the background, and seriously fighting back tears!
Congrats Pat, this is just all so fantastic!
I can hear the song in my head..."Heaven, I'm in heaven..."
LOL!
Congratulations Pat!!!!!
Congratulations!
I don't even know you, but I'm an aspiring author at the one-step- ahead-two-rejections- back stage and I felt like bursting into tears just reading your post -- and humming the Chariots of Fire theme song. Your book looks interesting and I will certainly look out for it.
Good for you for keeping at it and finally getting there and serving as an inspiration to the rest of us.
Enjoy the JOY, Pat!
Oh man, thanks for sharing this. Like others have said, I found myself tearing up too. What an amazing day for you!
Ahh wonderful bliss. You've earned this moment so enjoy it!
Aw, Pat--this is awesome. Good job!!
I don't think anyboy expects you to be dignified at a time like this!!!!
Soak it up. Well deserved.
Pat-
This is so amazingly awesome! I''m excited. I've got my local library to order it, and reserve it for me. I would jump for joy, except I'm supposed to be creating a project for class, and this is strictly on the DL. I'll jump for you later.

Congrats, Pat! They're so beautiful!

Be sure to pop some bubbly tonight, or celebrate at your favorite restaurant.
Do something special.
Savor the moment, for things like that don't happen every day.
Congratulations!
Linda
They're beautiful, Pat, for several reasons, most significantly for what they represent in terms of your accomplishment. More superficially, I just love the cover! The illustration makes me smile.
As the others have said, you have every right to savor this moment with silly smiles and tears. Enjoy.

That's so cool! It's a moment you'll never forget, I'm sure.
Now, who do I have to kill to get an ARC (just so I can bribe Miss Snark, lol.)
I look forward to getting my copy when it's released.
Enjoy! You deserve it! Very happy for you!
Your success may just be the impetus I need to get my arse in gear. All sorts of ideas for novel #3 swirling in my brain, but far too many distractions and stressors to think clearly enough to write.
Can't wait til August!!
"Congratulations, Ms. Wood! It's a book!"
Enjoy. The world awaits.
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing. The first day you hold your book is such a special day. Right up there with walking in a store and seeing it on display.
Enjoy it all. First books only happen once.
I am so very happy for you! You made a great comment on my blog a while back and I'm about to share it with some other people (hope you don't mind), so I stopped over to thank you again for the support you showed me when I needed it. This is proof positive that nice people do not finish last - they make it to the top of the NY Times Best Seller list, which is where I'm sure we all agree, you are headed. I hope you continue to feel the elation of this day long into the future (and that you make so much money from it that you will never have a need to win the lottery)! Congratulations!
That's great to have your galleys. I'll be getting mine in about a month.
I just ordered your book on Amazon. Keep thos esales ranks up!
best wishes
John Robison
Pat,
That is so very fabulous!
I already have my copy on order from Amazon, and I can't wait 'til August!
Brava!
It's truly inspiring to see an author so very happy about something we take too much for granted in our business. We see lots of galleys, and a good number of the somewhat more special Advanced Reading Copies, so it's sometimes easy to forget how much these mean to their creators. Thanks for reminding us, Pat. You are a gem!

I am unspeakably thrilled for you, Pat.
Congratulations.
It couldn't happen to a nicer person!
Yay!
I'm looking forward to seeing it.
By the way, I've left everyone here some inspiration on my blog so they'll get back to
writing
Wow, Pat. The books look great! I know you're ecstatic! :*)
Congrats! What a wonderful moment for you. I'm certain you will remember it for the rest of your life.
You're book sounds right up my alley--will ask our local indy bookstore to order it for me.
Best of luck!
It's beautiful, Pat, just beautiful. Congratulations on this exciting stage, and just think, there are even MORE wonderful stages to come, and they're getting closer and closer. Hugs and cheers to you and LOTTERY.
Congratulations - that's terrific! May it sell a million copies, and may there be many more!
Like Mary Witzl above, I'm still in the middle of the long journey to where you are now. It's so inspiring to see someone who made it. Thank you for sharing that moment.
(In case you're wondering who I am, I found your page through a comment on PubRants, but I actually "know" you through Miss Snark.)
